ISP Boston

History

Founded in 1998 in Chicago, IL by Fr. Bill Creed, SJ, and Ed Shurna (formerly Executive Director of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless), the Ignatian Spirituality Project (ISP) offers experiences of hope, healing, and belonging to men and women recovering from homelessness and addiction. By inviting our participants into a deeper encounter with the God of their understanding, ISP retreats and spiritual programs provide the encouragement and empowerment necessary to make real, transformative life changes. Today, ISP offers retreats, follow up and spiritual accompaniment programs in over 20 cities nationwide..

ISP Boston is one of the oldest ISP programs in the country. Co-founder Bill Creed SJ helped launch the first men’s retreat in 2003 at Eastern Point Retreat House, which graciously offered space and hospitality to the ISP program. Women’s retreats began in Boston a few years later in January 2007.

About Us

The ISP Boston program has become one of the strongest affiliates in the ISP Network, offering 7 overnight retreats and follow up days of reflection for men and women annually, as well as a robust spiritual accompaniment program. Led primarily by alumni team members, these spiritual accompaniment “Tune Ups” serve over 350 individuals each year. In addition, the women’s team offers monthly spiritual accompaniment opportunities exclusively for women.  The men and women’s teams have grown to include alumni that are taking the ministry to the next level. The Boston men’s and women’s teams currently participate in the Ambassadors of Hope program.
